Making industrial energy and environmental decisions and developing a cogent strategy in this time of unprecedented legislative and regulatory uncertainty is growing more and more difficult. It will take integrating energy and environmental requirements. Decisions made today could have negative impacts on individual facilities and corporations in the future and threaten the viability of US institutions and manufacturing facilities. This decision making and planning is further complicated as more people, regulators, NGO's and the Public at large, with little or no understanding of the diversity and technical complexities of industrial/institutional energy generation and combustion, are expecting results and demanding performance that is physically impossible across the whole sector. Since 1978, thirty years ago, our greatest strength has been found in our ability to integrate energy and environmental issues from a practical and technical operations perspective to generate reasonable and achievable legislation and regulations. It will take that same strength, focused on forward thinking and strategic development, for our members to succeed within this current era of legislative, regulatory, technical, financial, and political uncertainty. That is what this Annual Meeting is all about - bringing 30 years of knowledge and activity to help our members light the way through this storm of near and long-term energy and environmental uncertainty.
This year's agenda will bring the best people together to help us use CIBO's unique capabilities and strengths to help our members understand the interrelationships of energy and environmental issues and corporate requirements to better develop integrated energy and environmental strategies for the near and long-term. A tentative agenda is attached. Your inputs and suggestions are always appreciated. If you would like to help on one of the panels or know of someone who could benefit us all on one of our topics or would like particular topic discussed, please let us know.
The Annual Membership Survey will be sent out at the end of July. The information from past surveys has guided our efforts; and, we could never accomplish all we do without it. Your input helps tremendously. The 2008 survey information enabled us to develop strategies and allocate valuable resources for maximum benefit to members. This year's survey results will be reviewed in September, summarized and discussed at the Annual Meeting. It will be used to develop CIBO's strategy for 2009 and respond to a major post election change with a new administration. You do not want to miss this year's 30th Annual Meeting.
